Walk & Talk Coaching
Personal training for your whole life.
One-to-one coaching in Sydney for busy professionals who want some space to think, talk honestly about what's going on and make practical changes that help them feel more like themselves again.
Sometimes you just need somewhere to talk
You don't need to arrive with a goal, a five-year plan or even a particularly good explanation of what's going on.
You might know exactly what you want to work through. Or you might just know that something doesn't feel quite right.
That's enough.
We'll start there.
Some sessions might be about work, relationships or a decision you've been putting off. Others might be about your health, confidence, habits or simply why you've been feeling a bit “meh”.
My job isn't to tell you what to do. It's to listen, ask questions, help you clear the noise and work out what feels right for you.
What does a session actually look like?
It’s as simple as meeting outdoors and starting a walk. The rest follows.
There's no clipboard, couch or awkward silences. We walk side-by-side and talk.
In my work over the last 20 years I’ve found something in moving and talking. It’s an activity that seems to take the pressure off and helps conversation unfold more naturally.
Depending on what you need that day, we might start with some movement to help you shift out of work mode. We might stop somewhere quiet for a simple breathing or mindfulness exercise. Or we might just walk, talk and see where the conversation takes us.
This isn't a fitness session disguised as coaching, and you certainly don't need to be fit. The movement is there to help you feel calmer, think clearer, and feel good as a result.
You'll usually leave with a clearer mind, a few things to think about and one or two practical actions to take into the week ahead.
What can we work on?
One of the things I love about coaching is that we don't have to put life into perfect little boxes and have it all figured out.
Work can affect your health. Your health affects your energy. Relationships affect your confidence. And a crap night's sleep can make everything seem worse.
So we'll talk about whatever matters to you in the present moment.
That might include your health and habits, stress, work, relationships, confidence, a big decision or what you want the next few years of your life to look like.
Sometimes the most useful session starts with:
"I don't really know what I want to talk about today, Tom."
And we go from there.
Why walk and talk?
I've coached people indoors, online and outdoors, and I keep coming back to walking and talking.
Being outside gives us a change of scenery and distance from the places where most of our life's noise happens. Walking side-by-side also makes conversation feel less formal. There's no need to maintain eye contact or sit still while trying to find the right words.
Clients have described it as feeling like they're moving through their challenges rather than sitting there stuck in them.
And sometimes a bit of fresh air and rose in your cheeks does you the world of good.
Where we'll walk
Sessions currently take place at:
Hyde Park · Barangaroo Reserve · St Leonards Park · Maroubra Beach · Botany Bay National Park
Each gives us enough space and privacy to talk without feeling like we're sitting in another meeting.
We walk in most weather — it can actually be quite grounding — so bring something appropriate. If Sydney decides to absolutely bucket it down, we'll reschedule.
One session or ongoing coaching?
Sometimes one good conversation is all you need. You have something on your mind, you want an impartial sounding board and an hour walking and talking helps you see it differently.
Other times there's more to work through. Regular coaching gives us time to experiment with changes, see what happens in real life and keep adjusting as you go.
We can work that out together.
